About Me

meI’ve always been intrigued by the way we communicate with the world. Public relations allows me to explore the best ways to effectively get a message across to a large group of people. As a junior at Drake University, I have been able to discover and study many different types of communication. I wrote a comprehensive public relations plan for the Drake University Office of Admissions, developed a social media strategies campaign for the Waveland Cafe, and put together all public relations materials for the Student Activities Board Drake Relays.  In addition to Drake, I had the opportunity to serve as the marketing intern for Broadway in Chicago. As the marketing intern, I created a social media campaign that is still running today! In addition to social media, I assisted in event planning.

At Drake I study public relations and sociology. A few classes that I have really enjoyed are public relations planning, public relations writing, news writing and reporting, micro-sociology, race and ethnicity, social media strategies and media law. Each of these classes has been a unique experience that has helped me get one step further to my goal of working in the public relations field. I also have a leadership concentration at Drake. This has really helped me learn a lot about my personal leadership style and how to become a better leader. In this concentration, I learn about different leadership models and then apply them to the different campus organizations that I am apart of.

In my free time at school, I serve on the Drake University Student Senate as the historian and sit on the Facilities and Technologies Committee. I also help run the student group Mentors in Violence Prevention. Outside of school, I love to hang out with my friends and watch Scandal. I also enjoy reading, social media, swimming, ice skating and rock climbing. I even helped start the rock climbing club here on campus! I was also fortunate enough to be on my high school’s swim team and I still continue to swim today for exercise and for fun.

After Drake I hope to find myself working in PR, preferably in Chicago or somewhere out east. I’m still not sure exactly what I would like to do, but I think that is part of the journey. I know that I am doing something that I love to do, and for now that is all that matters!
